Breach of contract, unjust enrichment, fraud and defamation. Well, at least it’s not murder. Producer of the live Vegas Donny & Marie Show, Chip Lightman, is suing the stars of the extravaganza that bears their names for reasons that include the first eight words of this story.
Lightman says, in a lawsuit filed some days ago in Vegas, that Donny and Marie Osmond tried to stiff him from cash with “deceitful dealings” when their show was extended for an additional two years.
“Contrary to the wholesome, all-American, good-natured image that he presents to the public, defendant Donny’s conduct has been anything but (wholesome, all-American, good-natured?). He has conducted himself in a manner that is underhanded, devious, fraudulent and greedy,” but that’s just Donny. “Despite Marie’s seemingly innocent nature, she too is liable for the fraud perpetuated by Donny through her acquiescence, awareness and utter failure to disclose the steps taken by Donny to deceive (Lightman) and circumvent their contractual obligations.”
Lightman’s complaint tends to blame Donny far more, who allegedly invented a plan to ace out the William Morris Agency, then cut Lightman out when the producer wouldn’t (reportedly) go along with the alleged scheme. The suit goes on and on, but you get the idea.
All this is one side of the story. The Osmonds haven’t told their version of it yet.
