During my younger years, Marvel Comics was my label of choice and Captain America my numero uno superhero.  The guy had the most patriotic outfit in the Marvel Universe, kicked butt in WWII (with his heroic sidekick Bucky and The Invaders), was a leader on The Avengers, and even battled a gigantic version of himself (comic fans must remember the Ameridroid!!).  The jury is still out on whether Chris Evans will do Cap justice in  Captain America: The First Avenger, but his dramatic turns in Sunshine and Street Kings proves he has the talent to knock this role out of the park.  Now word comes this week that SEGA is developing Captain America: Super Soldier for the Xbox 306, PS3, Wii, and the Nintendo DS!!  I’m not a fan of regurgitating company statements, but since I’m a huge ‘Cap fan here’s few words from SEGA Senior VP Gary Knight: “Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America.  Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier wielding Captain America’s legendary shield.  Working closesly with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”  Gamers will take on Cap’s lifelong nemesis, the Red Skull, as well as the Hydra crime organization as our hero tries to stop the evil experiments of scientist Arnim Zola.

Captain American Ready To Vanquish His Foes!!

Players will use Cap’s shield to take out several enemies at once, protect themselves from gunfire, and even scale walls.  SEGA’s press release gives no mention of any of the Invaders squad (Spitfire, Sub-Mariner, Union Jack, the Human Torch) or even Bucky making appearances, but hopefully the SEGA team will work a few cameos into the title.  With the videogame and Captain America: The First Avenger coming out next year, non-comic book fans will finally get acquainted with Marvel’s top dog (Cap to the Marvel Universe is akin to Superman in the DC universe).  Until Chris Evans throws his shield around or when gamers beat Red Skull to a bloody pulp….Make Mine Marvel!!!!!
