Lone Star is one the first casualty of the fall season. The nighttime drama struggled with ratings that were so weak FOX dumped the show quickly – according to the industry trade magazine Variety.

The mag quotes one network insider with saying, “the viewers have spoken,” and in fact they have. Lone Star managed an average of 3.7 million viewers Monday night – a paltry amount and a 23-percent drop since its debut. Especially surprising considering House was its lead in.

But you almost have to wonder how the series, which received praise critically, would have performed in another timeslot. Maybe airing after Glee on Tuesdays would have been a better fit.

There were five episodes of Lone Star in the can and there is no word yet on what will happen with the remaining three. However, it looks like FOX plans to toss Lie to Me onto the schedule in Lone Star’s place beginning October 4th.
