As a fan of the original series, I had to seriously sit down and try to swallow the new Hawaii Five-O (airing tonight on CBS, 10 pm et/pt) like cough syrup. A few minutes in, however, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Alex O’Loughlin doing a very credible job as “Detective Steve McGarrett,” and the chemistry that “McGarrett” and his neurotic yet macho right hand man “Detective `Danno’ Williams” (Scott Caan) simply clicked. Throw in easy on the eyes Grace Park (from Battlestar Galactica and The Cleaner) plus Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim to round out “McGarrett’s” squad, and you have a group that should have me watching (or DVR-ing) every Monday night. Scott Caan, who’s terrific as arrogant talent agent “Scott Lavin” on Entourage, admits that Hawaii Five-O may be his strongest work in years. “I think I was able to do better work on this than I had done in the last ten years in movies,” says the actor, whose father is The Godfather’s James Caan. “And I think it’s just - you’re getting to see a little more of my personality, and a little more of what I can bring.” When asked if this role would have been played by his dad years ago, Scott Caan pretty much tells us not to over analyze his decision to play “Danno.” Click on the media bar to hear Mr. Caan talk about bringing a little bit more of his personal side with Hawaii Five-O.
