julie-bowen1 Actress Julie Bowen has enjoyed a solid TV career thanks to her run on Ed, followed by appearances on Boston Legal, Weeds, and Lost. But it’s her hilarious turn as perfectionist mom “Claire Dunphy” in Modern Family which has garnered her the most acclaim.  The mockumentary, which starts its second season tonight (ABC, 9 pm et/pt), won three Emmy Awards (including one for Outstanding Comedy Series) and may be the funniest thing to grace the boob tube (sorry, I just wanted to use that old school reference) since Arrested Development. Who knew that a former Brown University student who studied the Italian Renaissance would take part in such a comedic work of art?  This writer has interviewed Bowen several times over her career, and she’s always come off as extremely likable and quick-witted.  One obviously doesn’t have to pull for Modern Family to succeed, especially since it has the steady audience that Arrested Development failed to capture.  Click on the media bar to hear Bowen explain Modern Family’s success.
