“Lady Gaga is holding Lina’s soul, and I want her soul to be free,” Yana Morgana said regarding her daughter’s hidden contribution to the then-unknown Stefani Germanotta’s (the Gaga cottage industry) success. Morgana’s daughter, the late Lisa Morgana, died by her own hand at age 19.
Yana wants the rights to release several songs her daughter recorded with Gaga, and for the PR pop genius to acknowledge Lina’s influence and benefaction. “Every other word she says is from Lina,” Yana told the New York Post. “She talks about having a dark and tragic life, but she had everything she wanted in the world. She went to (the same) high school as Nickey Hilton, her parents were rich. But Lina did have a tough life, and she often talked about her tragic life.”
Reportedly, it was Jersey music producer Rob Fusari who brought songwriter Germanotta and singer Morgana together in early 2007 to see if they could generate something together.
Lina immigrated with her mother from Russia, where Yana says that her daughter knew only difficulty. Children ridiculed her in school, she didn’t know her father. Lina later elbowed her way into the performing world where she got the attention of Fusai. Yana says that privileged Gaga took Lina’s struggling, tough, angry, life and personality as her own.
“I’m doing this because I want to keep her spirit alive,” Yana said.
