Jay Leno returning to the Tonight show hasn’t exactly been the ratings boon NBC or its advertisers had hoped for according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The entertainment mag reported that Leno is pulling in lower numbers in key 18 to 49 demos than when Conan O’Brien hosted the show. Leno has been average 3.8 million viewers. In raw numbers it is better, but in the demos…it’s lower.

Good news for the talk show host though, he’s still pounding David Letterman by 22-percent.

NBC affiliates say they’re happy with the net’s schedule.
