Legendary actor, producer, author Kirk Douglas‘ greatest production may have been his son Michael. The eldest of Douglas‘ sons has won Oscars© (that have eluded his deserving father) in acting and producing, and became a Hollywood power broker long ago. Kirk Douglas proudly noted in his 1990 autobiography that he was now known as Michael Douglas‘ father. And, in other accomplishments, Michael Douglas overcame a drinking addiction and later stopped smoking.
In a release that public relations would rather not have written, Michael Douglas will endure eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation for throat cancer (the New York Post reports). Of Douglas‘ 65 years, this summer has been especially grueling with the sentencing of his son Cameron to five years in prison for drug dealing. Michael Douglas took the blame for his son, saying that he hadn’t been a good father.
But Douglas is reportedly optimistic about his son, the cancer treatment, and later said that the therapy will not effect the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps film promotion. Even a copter crash in 1991 that killed others on board didn’t faze Kirk Douglas, who will turn 94 this year. So a little thing like throat cancer shouldn’t bother Michael Douglas, who has the same steely grit that his less well-know, legendary (and indestructible) father has.
