Benjamin Knack was pulverized by both Chef Gordon Ramsay and Sous Chef Scott Liebfried in Hell’s Kitchen (Tuesdays, 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox) this week. Both chefs brutally called him out on his lack of leadership skills to a relentless and humiliating level.

Still, when it came to the eliminations it was Jason Ellis whose goose was cooked. Hardly seems fair, but Ellis is proud that he was able to deflect the criticism and credits his military service with giving him the tools to deal with the ranting.

“In Berlin, Germany I was in the Army and Hell’s Kitchen reminded me just of that,” he acknowledges. “After being there day after day you begin to realize that no matter what you do [Ramsay’s] going to complain, he’s going to fuss, he’s going to yell, he’s going to cuss. So, you just take it. Just let him do what he does and you can concentrate on cooking.”

Ellis may be the latest chef to get bounced from Hell’s Kitchen, but he says he accomplished all he set out to do.

“Sometimes you don’t necessarily have to win to win,” he says. “From D.C. to Tennessee, all the way down to Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, I held all that area on my own here in the South and I think that I think that I accomplished a lot for national exposure on the show to catapult me to the next great thing.”
