So You Think You Can Dance lady frontrunner Ashley Galvan was forced to withdraw last night because of a serious ribcage injury. This leaves only tough, resourceful Lauren Froderman as the lone girl standing in the contest. One might wonder if laboring with two (or three) routines weekly in unfamiliar styles (and now with all-stars) might overtax a dancer’s body. SYTYCD judge Adam Shankman says it’s not that choreographers are pushing too hard, but rather the dancers’ competitive spirit is the reason. Dancing alongside all-stars this season or pushing to match (and outdo) dance magician Alex Wong are factors. Of course Alex had overdone himself into an eliminating tendon tear. We talked to elegant, Contemporary dancer Ashley Galvan who must remain static for six weeks, for thoughts on her journey, the injury and the future.
