The Twilight Saga: Eclipse set a record overnight with over $30 million banked in less than 24 hours. That figure was even more impressive considering the second installment of the Twilight flicks, New Moon, held the record with $26.3 mil.

To be fair, Eclipse was in a record number of theaters – 4,416 for the midnight showings (with more to be added by Friday). That’s significantly the 4,380 theaters for Iron Man 2’s debut.

Still, that means a lot of fannies were in those seats, proving that Eclipse is casting one heck of a shadow over the competition.
