Toy Story 3 pounded the competition again between Friday and Sunday bringing in an additional $59 million. In just two weeks out, the animated sequel has amassed an estimated $226 million taking it well over the $200 million budget. Toy Story 3 is shaping up to be the hit of the summer.
The Adam Sandler comedy, Grown Ups landed in second place with an impressive $41 million in revenue. It seems Sandler’s brand of potty humor still strikes a strong chord with moviegoers.
The Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz action-adventure-romance Knight & Day opened to a less impressive $27 million. That has to be a disappointment for Fox, who pulled out all the stops promoting the heck out of the movie.
The Karate Kid is still drawing a significant audience share. The family film came in at number four and gathered up an additional $15.4 million. That brings its total to $135.6 million – way beyond the production costs of $40 million in just three weeks.
The A-Team picked up the fifth place spot and another meager $6 million. The big screen adaptation of the successful TV series has continued to under perform. In three weeks The A-Team has only raked in $62.8 million – well below its $110 million budget.
