Jamie Bisoulis is back at work with her regular job as a chef in Chicago, but she learned quite a bit about cooking from Chef Gordon Ramsay during her stint in Hell’s Kitchen.
“I learned not to overcook salmon ‘cause that’s still in my ear,” she laughs. “Whenever you’re learning from a great chef who has such a high level of standards, the way her calls you out if you don’t meet those standards, yeah, it’s really embarrassing, but you know you won’t do it again.”
And Bisoulis is actually using a few of Chef Ramsay’s techniques with her own staff…adding a little more diplomacy to her delivery, of course.
“If you don’t want the world to see one flaw in one dish don’t serve it,” Bisoulis begins adding, “I try to tell my staff, ‘Look at it. Would you serve this? Would you eat this? Do you think this is 100 percent?’ And if they say, ‘no,’ they remake it.”
The former contestant knows she was thrown under the bus by her teammates, but she still considers the experience a positive one. Her mother, however, wasn’t as thrilled to watch her daughter get the bum’s rush out the door.
“My mother, I think, had to go get another bottle of vodka to self medicate,” Bisoulis jokes. “Some of my friends…it was a two-hour episode, so they had to run to get more wine. They were surprised and they thought I was going to stay there longer.”
Her advice for the remaining chefs?
“Worry about yourself. Don’t keep throwing people under to make yourself look better because all will happen in due time.”
