Meg Cabot is an author who taps right into the young adult mindset with her novels. From the Princess Diaries to Avalon High, Cabot has found a diehard audience that looks forward to reading her stories and she credits social media for a portion of her success.
“I just love everything that’s making me accessible to teens and young people being able to Twitter and go on Facebook and just being able to get instant feedback,” Cabot begins. “I didn’t have that growing up. We were able to write on the bathroom walls when we thought people were misbehaving.”
Fans are really in for a treat with her newest book, Insatiable. The story plays into the recent vampire trend and returns it to its roots. Think Bram Stoker’s Dracula in a modern sequel.
They’ve always been part of the pop culture lexicon,” she points out. “Feeding into that is fun. I love it. I kind of went back to the whole Dracula thing, the evil vampires. I like the ones that are kind of old fashioned, you kill them with a stake and sunshine kills them.”

But, this also pokes a bit of fun at the vampire craze by telling the story of Meena Harper, a successful dialog writer for Insatiable, the hottest daytime drama on TV. As another soap, Lust, starts creeping up in the ratings, Meena’s bosses want her to add a sexy vampire love interest to the show.
It doesn’t take long before Meena starts to question whether the legendary tale is true, especially after a series of deaths occur in the city and a mysterious man named Lucien Antonescu appears to sweep her off her feet.
Sounds like perfect movie fodder, right? Well, Cabot doesn’t want to hear any of that old stuff…at least not yet. Though she says she’s not at liberty to talk about any of her books being turned into films and TV shows (other than Avalon for the Disney Channel), she also promises that when the time is right, she’ll fess up to everything (i.e. contracts I’m guessing).
“I’m not allowed to say.” Cabot says adding, “We’ve got lots of things in the hopper, but I can’t really talk about them before they’re out. They’re very hush-hush about a lot of these things.”
We can all probably take that as a yes.
