If you were watching the Ghost Whisperer Friday night, you had to be wondering out how such a fun, little ghost story series moved so far away from its beginnings.

Yet, we at HollywoodOutbreak.com believe the finale is the perfect example of what went wrong and why it was cancelled.

Sure, there were still the resident ghosts. This time a group of kids who died at the local hospital, were tricked into staying on earth rather than travel to the hereafter. By who? A 13-year-old dead boy dealing with abandonment issues.

Sadly, we completely bought into that premise.

However, the companion piece was that the Ghost Whisperer herself (Jennifer Love Hewitt), was kissed in her crib by an evil black smoke that only her creepy son (Conner Gibbs) could save her from. And therein lies the problem.

The series went from supernatural to super-ridiculous with characters that were downright depressing. Melinda (Hewitt) was worried her son might die because of his abilities to see and hear ghosts and demons. But, we think with such worry and sadness, death would be preferable to the dour lives of the families living in Granville.

Jeez, crack a smile now and then would ya?

And that kid! He gives Damian in The Omen a run for his money.

Rumor is ABC is actually considering resurrecting this series. Well, if they do, they need a rewrite and should recast characters for sure – starting with the son.

James Van Praagh – who the series is based on – must be turning over in his grave. Oops he’s not dead yet, but his show sure is and way beyond life support.

ABC, please! Do not resuscitate.
