There are already a gazillion versions of Robin Hood, but the best of the lot is arguably the 1938 Errol Flynn version The Adventures of Robin Hood. What made the pic so engaging was, of course, the charismatic lead actor, but it was also just plain fun. Sure there were dramatic moments, but the lightheartedness in that specific pic’s telling overshadowed the serious elements.
The remake starring Russell Crowe, is the latest flick based on the tale of an avenger who robbed from the rich to give to the poor. This new Robin Hood is downright serious and contains tons of action and, of course, the obligatory close ups of a traveling arrow.
While we love Crowe and admire the heck out of Director Ridley Scott, we prefer our men in tights to be merrier.

Just Wright stars Queen Latifah as Leslie Wright, a physical therapist who falls hard for Scott McKnight (Rapper turned actor Common), a basketball player with a career-threatening injury he’s overcoming with Leslie’s help. Enter Leslie’s best bud Morgan (Paula Patton), who is bent on sticking her meat hooks into the NBA all-star. Nice departure for Latifah. She’s just naturally charming. This isn’t a new take on a romantic-comedy though. We’ve seen it before…multiple times. But we love Latifah in a role that is usually reserved for a super-skinny actress. We also like it because we know big girls need love, too.

Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is on vacation in Italy. She discovers an unanswered love letter in Letters to Juliet. However, it’s only one of many and it doesn’t take long before Sophie goes on the hunt for the couple who have been exchanging correspondence for years. Again, nothing new here, but, Letters to Julia is awfully pretty to look at.
