Iron Man 2, the sequel to 2008’s superhero flick Iron Man, nearly paid for itself in one weekend with a whopping $133,600,000 in box office receipts. The film coat $200 mil to make. Most had predicted the pic would grab the top spot and the huge cash intake, but it was believed that Iron Man 2 could actually break the record set by The Dark Knight at $158 mil in 2008. OK, so it fell short of that, but it’s a good bet Paramount is content with the numbers. Besides, not other films came within spitting distance of the box office take Iron Man 2 pulled in.

Sitting at number two, A Nightmare on Elm Street. The remake of the horror classic of the same name grabbed $9.1 million bringing its total box office to $48.5 mil in its second week out.

How to Train Your Dragon is heating up theaters pulling in an additional $6.7 million. The animated flick has held firm in the top five for the last seven weeks and has amassed $201 million since its debut.

Date Night, saw $5.3 million in revenue and landed in fourth position. The Steve Carell, Tina Fey romantic comedy has proved to be a big success for Fox, who smartly cast the NBC TV stars in the lead roles. Date Night has maintained momentum bringing in $80.8 million in just five weeks.

The Back-Up Plan came in at fifth place and raised an additional $4.3 million. The Jennifer Lopez film hasn’t had as much heat as many expected it would, but has still managed $29.4 million in three weeks. It still has a way to go before the movie makes its money back, The Back-Up Plan cost $35 million to produce.
