Betty White is the woman of the hour…day…week…year…decade and more. At the age of 88, the actress is hosting Saturday Night Live, thanks to a Facebook campaign that caught the attention of SNL creator, Lorne Michaels.

Not only that, but she is set to begin production the following Monday on a new sitcom for TV Land, Hot in Cleveland, playing a crotchety older landlady to three attractive women (Valerie Bertinelli, Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves).

Not a modest accomplishment in a town where 40 can be fatal to a woman’s acting career. But, White has survived - as in demand as ever – a fortunate turn of events she is stunned by.

“It blows my mind,” White begins. “I’m blessed with good health and I’m grateful for it – and my energy level is very high. But, I can’t get over at my age what all’s going on. All I can do is roll with the punch and enjoy it thoroughly and be grateful for it.”

White is a veteran of live TV having started her career in Los Angeles working five-and-a-half hours a day, six days a week on camera. Plus, her roles as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls were both shot in front of an audience, so she’s anticipating a good experience…although White admits she wasn’t interested in hosting SNL – ever.

“I told my agent to please say thank you, I appreciate it, but no thank you,” White recalls. “He said you have to do it and if you don’t I’ll divorce you. And I love my agent so here I am, going to do it and scared to death.”

Betty White hosts Saturday Night Live this Saturday, 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Jay Z is the musical guest.

Hot in Cleveland is set to premiere June 16th.
