Not surprising, the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street attracted the biggest audience over the weekend and brought in $32.2 million for its debut.
However, the number two movie, How to Train Your Dragon has slowed its momentum only slightly in week six, grabbing $10.8 million in revenue since Friday, bringing the total receipts to an impressive $192.3 mil since its release. Word of mouth is high for the animated family film and keeping it alive and thriving at the box office.
Another surprise is the third place entry Date Night. The Fox romantic-comedy (starring NBC/Universal stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey) pulled in $7.6 million between Friday and Sunday in its fourth weekend out.
The Jennifer Lopez romantic-comedy The Back-up Plan dropped 40-percent in its second week out managing $7.2 million. That brings its total take to $22.9 million, far lower than the $35 mil it cost to produce.
Saddest entry of the week…the family comedy Furry Vengeance starring Brendan Fraser. The pic barely brought in $6.5 million at the box office. Perhaps it would have been better to market the flick to family pets.
Rounding out the top 10:
6. The Losers $6 million
7. Clash of the Titans $5.9 million
8. Kick-Ass $4.4 million
9. Death at a Funeral $4 million
10. Oceans $2.6 million.
