According to MTV.com , Anchorman 2, the sequel to the hugely successful 2004 comedy Anchorman starring Will Ferrell as a 1970s newscaster, will not happen. Director/writer Adam McKay seemed upset when he told MTV.com, ”So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2…even after we cut our budget down. We tried.” Reportedly, Ferrell’s Anchorman costars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd were even willing to take pay cuts.
Is this the start of a new era, where movie studios are actually going to watch what they spend and produce? Let’s just say, don’t count on it. It probably has more to do with Ferrell’s box office draw lately. The actor’s past few movies, Step Brothers, Semi-Pro, and the huge bomb, Land Of The Lost (although you can blame the studio as well for that box office disaster), were not exactly money makers. Maybe the studio just didn’t consider Anchorman 2 a bankable investment.
