The Broken Lizard guys are smart enough to know that if a joke makes them laugh it’s a good bet it’ll appeal to audiences, too.
However, Broken Lizard filmmakers, Kevin Heffernan and Erik Stolhanske have to laugh about the pitch session to the studio, which can often draw blank stares from the executives. Though in recent years, it’s become easier just because their work has become well-known.
These guys love their work, but they’re even more impressed with the performances from their actors, which can often include names rarely associated with zany comedies. Like Club Dredd lead actor, Bill Paxton and Slammin’ Salmon star, Michael Clarke Duncan, who made a name for himself with impressive performances in films like The Green Mile. Duncan was harder to woo than the other stars who have said, “yes,” but, Heffernan and Stolhanske learned that Duncan checked up on them before agreeing to the movie.
And it’s Duncan’s performance, as well as the commentary the guys want viewers to pay close attention to in the DVD of Slammin’ Salmon.
They’re already hard at work on their next project which is a sequel to Super Troopers. There was speculation the movie would be a prequel, but Heffernan and Stolhanske confirm they have decided to move the story forward – at the expense of Canadians.
