OK, so this will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but Ricky Martin has announced he’s gay. He’s kept mum for years and at the age of 38, the father of twins decided it was important to come out for his children’s sake.

“I am proud to say I am fortunate to be a homosexual man,” the La Vida Loca singer posted on his web site. “I am very blessed to be who I am.”

It was while writing his memoir that Martin began thinking about his sons and was inspired to stop living a lie.

“To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen five or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment,” he wrote passionately.
