How to Train Your Dragon breathed heavy fire over the weekend taking in an estimated $43.3 million between Friday and Sunday. Dragon was well reviewed by critics and apparently audiences took notice and lined up for the pic in numbers.

It was followed by Alice in Wonderland, which still did significant box office in its fourth week out finishing in second place with $17.3 million.

John Cusack’s bawdy comedy, Hot Tub Time Machine did all right in third place racking up $13.6 million. While The Bounty Hunter, dropped from third to fourth place taking in $12.4 mil.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which show strong numbers last week with a second place take of $21.8 million, dropped off 54.8 percent in its second week, but still managed fifth place over the weekend raking up $10 mil.
