Don’t tell Richard Zanuck 3D films are a necessity. He’s just not buying it even though he helped produce Alice in Wonderland for regular and 3D theaters.

The producer of Jaws, Driving Miss Daisy and The Verdict just doesn’t believe movies like that would benefit much from the format. And he’s even less convinced that moviegoers are sold on the medium. Zanuck is certain a great story will always be what audiences flock to regardless of how it’s packaged.

Enter DreamWorks animation guru, Jeffrey Katzenberg, who believes all movies will eventually be in 3D and who tried to sway Zanuck’s view. All Katzenberg managed to do is solidify Zanuck’s opinion that if it ain’t on the page it ain’t on the stage.
