Who would have thought it? Diary of a Wimpy Kid showing such strong numbers and taking the second position at the box office! It came in strong with an estimated $21.8 million in ticket sales.

As HollywoodOutbreak.com reported yesterday, it appeared that Disney’s Alice in Wonderland would prevail in the top spot considering it was in that position on Friday. Of course it did. Alice did drop 45-percent in its third weekend out, but it still brought in a whopping $34.5 mil.

Coming in third…the romantic-comedy The Bounty Hunter, with $21 million in receipts. Respectable, sure, but nowhere near what it needed to recoup the $40 million cost of the film.

Universal Pictures’ latest flop was Repo Men, a flick that cost $32 million to make and produced a shabby estimated total of $6.2 mil between Friday and Sunday. It came in fourth, but far short of what it should have done considering the star power involved: Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Liev Schreiber.

She’s Out of My League came in fifth with $6.0 million, while Universal’s other flop, Green Zone failed to produce the needed green at the box office in its second week out ($5.9 mil).

Rounding out the top 10:

7. Shutter Island $4.7 million

8. Avatar $4 million

9. Our Family Wedding $3.8 million

10. Remember Me $3.3 million
