We need more films like this! Kristen and Dakota effortlessly carried the entire movie on their young shoulders and did it with ease. Dakota is maturing into one of the best actresses in the world and Kristen is not far behind.
This is a powerful tale that I hope gets girls everywhere believing that they can pick up guitars and form bands and change the world.

Nina, don’t waste your time watching the movie, nor make time to comment here if you prefer to do something else. The Runaways is a thoroughly enjoyable film and kudos to the director, crew and especially actors who filmed the movie in about 2 months.

Nina, you obviously have unbashed bias against Kristen, it’s seem like your looking for anything to harp on. I don’t if you every heard The Runaways before, but if we are talking about singing skills here it’s not Dakota sounds anything like Cherie. Of course Kristen doesn’t sound exactly like Joan, but she did a pretty dammn good job. It’s funny why you would even bother with the movie when it sounds like you didn’t even like or know anything about the band. What a waster of money for you since you went into not even giving it a chance.

Apparently I didn’t see the same movie as the other people. The entire movie is about a 5 girls who hate men and blame them for everything instead of taking any responsibility for theirselves. Kristen as usual has nothing to give their really is nothing there. Dakota was a little backed off but you could still see here acting ability. In fact she’s the only one you care about. Kristen’s singing is awful and if you listen closely you can tell it’s been majorly doctored. I know everyone will say it wasn’t but it was. Kristen’s guitar playing consist of her humping a guitar! Don’t waste your money.

Wow, I just came from the movie. Watched The Runaways. What a movie. You should never will (or at least this week) watch any romantic comedy again. It is a waste of your brain cells.
The director of photography Benoit Debie in charge of the camera- his work is is a masterpiece! The close captures of let’s say dog’s poop. A high heel cracking the pill, Dakota’s character fainting in the elevator, the car (!!!) genius) that take them on the tour parked up the ramp, as if it was a warning ,a symbol of quick possibility of falling back. That film can be watch just to learn what professional cameras can do, pure art, .What a vision- close view into the eyes of the musicians. Art at the highest. The director Floria Sigismondi—deserves an Oscar. She does not exploit the girls. That famous for being famous kissing scene is nothing, done in shades, nothing to it. Believe me ,I was afraid for hard core heterosexual scenes with drugged musicians – that did not happened either .
The best actor for me—is Michael Shannon, or maybe his role is just well written. Dakota is superb. Kristen is almost too pretty to be a real butch, compose , stoic. Clear leader. When she smiles- all that upper middle class girl , child comes out. She looks very innocent. Very believable. The girls were not monsters but regular girls. The camera, yes, I am In love with the camera crew- shots from above, angles. As for emotions: I have cried twice and laughed about three times. I was glued to the chair. Too bad it is R rated. All girls should see it. And if the girls sung themselves- the are gifted. It gives you felling of being at the concert. I do not know who sung what because voices bland together. It is such emotional drama, elegantly made, energizing but without sentiments. Real life story objectively presented. Real music movie. Too short for me.

Saw the Runaways last night. The only thing I can say is that I loved the movie. It’s not a pretty movie. It’s a realistic portrayal of the excesses of the times. Kristen nailed the role! She captured Joan Jett’s walk, mannerisms, quirks, everything. Dakota was outstanding! Both actors did an excellent job. The other actors did also. The fact that both young women can actually sing adds credibility to the film. I really feel that it was given the R rating more because of the fowl language and the depiction of drug use than any sex scene in the movie. I was more taken aback by Dakota sex or allusions of sex with men than the much publicized kiss with Kristen. I would recommend this film but it’s definitely not a kids movie.
