Everybody’s Fine is the remake of the Gieuseppe Tornatore film of the same name, but instead of Marcello Mastroianni, this turn features Robert DeNiro in the lead role. The new version isn’t bad, just not as good as the original, which is a story about a widower who sets out on a trek to reconnect with his adult children after the death of his wife. Tornatore is big on visuals…specifically visuals that evoke a mood. The remake does not rely on that and seems a bit disjointed. However, the performances are stellar and it’s a nice change for DeNiro, in a much more subdued role than what audiences are used to seeing from the actor.
