Hat check and cigarette girls, tux tailored waiter staff, gorgeous gowns. Welcome to the ’30s and to the 2010 Academy Awards Governors Ball.

As the chair of this year’s post party bash, Jeffrey Kurland has designed a retro wardrobe for his service staff that has L.A.’s modern sensibilities.

It’s Kurland’s first year taking on the challenge of the Governors Ball and he’s definitely put a glamourous spin on yearly event.

Kurland’s credentials? How about an Oscar-nomination in the costume design category for Woody Allen’s 1994 period comedy, Bullets over Broadway. The look of that flick certainly qualifies him for the Oscar gig, but his other credits include, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Erin Brockovich, Oceans Eleven and Law Abiding Citizen to name a few.

The Academy Awards are announced live from the Kodak Theatre, March 7th and broadcast on ABC.
