Hard to imagine that any studio would say “no” to having Johnny Depp in their movie, but the actor says it was a rough road in the beginning.

He credits Director Tim Burton for much of his success, which isn’t surprising considering the two have worked together on six previous flicks, including Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood. Now they’re moving forward on the upcoming pic, Dark Shadows and have the updated version of Alice in Wonderland about to descend on theaters.

Still, he’ll always be grateful to Burton for having faith in his acting abilities – and for bucking the higher ups and insisting Depp star in his movies.
