Kevin Smith (left) was ejected from a Southwest Airline flight for being too fat.

Director-actor Kevin Smith claims he was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight for being too fat.

The airline has a policy that if the customer can fit in the seat and lower the armrests then they’re good to go. If not, they have to make other arrangements (in other words, they’re ejected).

Smith isn’t taking the incident sitting down. On his online SMODcast (http://www.smodcast.com/) the filmmaker explains exactly what happened on his “portly misadventure.”

Smith insists he can fit into their seats. However he also admits he usually buys two tickets, not for the size, but for comfort. Problem was, though he bought two tickets, there seems to have been a bit of confusion.

He gives the airline props for usually being friendly, but while coming back from San Francisco (ironically to do a SMODcast on being fat), Smith had nothing but problems – and the seat was the capper. The pilot sent the flight attendant over to deliver the bad news (so she says, but Smith is suspect).

It might have been smarter for Southwest to accommodate the Clerks director, rather than take the hit from his explanation of what happened on his SMODcast.

The entire SMODcast is linked from Smith’s Twitter page, but be prepared, it’s the full story and will take a while to listen to…and if you’re at work, dial it down or wear headphones. Smith checks absolutely nothing at the door and his remarks are quite blue.
