Channing Tatum did a number of his own stunts in his new movie Dear John and while the production frowned on it – he pressed the issue and got his way.

Pressed may be just a bit understated according to the actor, who says he dug his heels in until they let him drop 10 feet into what appeared to be a bottomless body of water. Pretty extreme behavior for a thrill or two.

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a fly on the wall at the stuntmen’s union to see how they reacted to losing work because Tatum went all macho on them. Still, it appears to have paid off, Dear John took the number one spot over the weekend earning $32.4 million and finally unseat Avatar from the top position.
