On this day in 1956, UNIVERSAL PICTURES released THE BENNY GOODMAN STORY, another of several musical biopics telling the story of popular musicians. Popular TV talk show host STEVE ALLEN (an accomplished musician himself) took the lead as the swinging big band leader, DONNA REED co-starred as GOODMAN’S wife. This film remains immensely watchable (mostly because of the great music).
