On this day in 1986, director Vincente Minnelli, father of Liza Minnelli, dies at the age of 83. In the mid-1930s, Minnelli directed Broadway musicals, including Ziegfeld Follies. He directed such classic films as An American in Paris, Father of the Bride, and Meet Me in St. Louis, starring Judy Garland, whom he married in 1945. The couple had daughter Liza in 1946 and divorced in 1951.
