On this day in 1989, MIRAMAX FILMS hosted the SUNDANCE premiere of SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE. Directed by STEVEN SODERBERGH from his own script, this first time feature (he’d only done docs and shorts previously) was a major triumph for the newbie filmmaker. Dialogue driven and heavy on character, the film continues to impress long after actual videotape has come and gone. The brilliant cast includes JAMES SPADER, ANDIE MacDOWELL, PETER GALLAGHER and LAURA SAN GIACOMO.
