On this day in 1942, M-G-M released WOMAN OF THE YEAR, the first of several sexual-political comedies starring SPENCER TRACY and KATHERINE HEPBURN.

Because of (or in spite of) the duo’s complicated off-screen romance, their on-screen pairing translated to a dynamic chemistry that was remarkable. Very smart and very funny, WOMAN OF THE YEAR remains a comedy classic.
