American Idol had a significant number of viewers Tuesday night, which no doubt, pleases Fox. Speculation that the show had lost its Mojo didn’t seem to influence fans – and the audience grew each half hour…only dropping a fraction in the final 30 minutes of the broadcast.
The numbers were rolled out as follows: 25.5 million for the first half-hour followed by 30.2 mil at 8:30 p.m., then 32.3 million at 9:00 p.m. and then 31.0 for the last of the reality show’s two-hour season premiere for an average of 29.7 million viewers overall.
NCIS was still a ratings giant in the 8:00 p.m. hour with an average of 20.7 million viewers and its spinoff show, NCIS Los Angeles held onto much of that second place audience at 9:00 p.m. with 15.5 million overall.
NBC’s hit reality series, The Biggest Loser managed third place and showed strong numbers in both the 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. hours with 7.8 and 8.3 million respectively. Fourth place at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. hours went to a double dose of both SCRUBS (2.5 mil and 2.7 million) and the comedy Better Off Ted (2.2 million and 2.5 mil). Repeats of 90210 and Melrose Place had negligible results with an average of 770,000 at 8:00 p.m. hour and 688,000 in the 9:00 p.m. hour.
CBS landed on top at 10:00 p.m. with its freshman drama The Good Wife (13.7 million), followed by now canceled The Jay Leno Show (6.1 mi), while ABC’s the forgotten unfortunately lived up to its name with an average of 4.3 million viewers.
