On this day in 1992, TRI-STAR FILMS released CHAPLIN. Directed by SIR RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH from a book by DAVID ROBINSON and CHARLES CHAPLIN, the old-school style biopic was a tour-de-force for ROBERT DOWNEY JR. who took the titular role and made it all his own. Nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, many felt he was robbed when it went, instead, to AL PACINO for his hammy performance in SCENT OF A WOMAN. CHAPLIN is a film that can be re-visited many times over.
