On this day in 1926, George Burns and Gracie Allen are married by a justice of the peace in Cleveland, Ohio. George, born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City in 1896, worked for many years as a vaudeville performer. His acts included singing, roller-skating, and working with a seal. In 1923, he teamed up with comedian Gracie Allen, and the two married three years later. The couple worked together in radio, TV, and films. Burns died in 1996, more than 30 years after his wife.
