TMZ.com is reporting that Jay Leno is going back to the 11:30 p.m. time slot he gave up in 2009.  The web site states that Leno will go on hiatus February 1st and when he returns (after the Olympics) he’ll take back the reigns of The Tonight Show from Conan O’Brien…or at the very least nab half of that hour-long talker.

It’s no secret Leno in prime-time hasn’t been the ratings boon NBC expected (average viewers 4 to 5-million nightly), but O’Brien has also failed to keep The Tonight Show top of the late night heap.

If Leno returns to late night, it’ll be a big neener-neener to the net, who thought O’Brien had a better chance of continuing NBC’s late night dominance because of O’Brien’s younger demographics.

HollywoodOutbreak.com has made numerous attempts to get a response from NBC, but so far they have not returned calls or emails.

However, they did give a lukewarm response to the New York Times that NBC may be considering reinstating Leno to The Tonight Show, but a decision would not be announced Thursday.  Still, the exec didn’t deny the TMZ report that the net was considering the switch.
