"The Passion of the Betty" - In "Ugly Betty's" first episode in its new Wednesday night timeslot as part of ABC's winning comedy bloc, Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("Modern Family") makes a cameo appearance, returning as Betty's orthodontist, Dr. Farkas. Executive Producer Silvio Horta is one happy man.  His TV series Ugly Betty begins on its new night leaving Fridays in the dust and nothing more than a bad memory.

The ratings took a hit with the change from Thursdays to Fridays and Horta hoped the network would realize quickly that it was in the show’s best interests to change its placement on the schedule.

ABC did and now Horta’s confident Wednesdays will be a ratings winner for Betty - especially considering it’s airing right after the hit comedy, Modern Family.

To kick off the new day and time, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is returning to the series as Betty’s orthodontist Dr. Farkas, a role Ferguson originated before starring as Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family.  According to the EP, Ferguson’s guest shot psyched up all the Betty stars including Betty herself, America Ferrera. No word on whether Ferguson will make regular guest appearances or not, but Horta says the actor’s welcome anytime.

The series has been shooting in New York and much has happened there recently. The city is adding an additional charge to film in certain locations according to the New York Times, which has producers in the Big Apple crying foul. The fee could affect a number of productions including Ugly Betty, but so far, Horta hasn’t seen that happen. In fact, the EP isn’t sure if the places Betty shoots will be hit with the added cost at all.

For now Horta is concentrating on delivering great shows and is glad fans of Ugly Betty are getting all new episodes positioned well for maximum attention.

Ugly Betty airs in its new day and time, Wednesdays, 10:01 p.m. ET/PT beginning tonight on ABC.
