dr-jekyllOn this day in 1931, PARAMOUNT PICTURES released DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE. Directed by the talented ROUBEN MAMOULIAN and pretty faithfully based on the classic ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON novella, this film was as stylish as movies could be in that era. FREDRIC MARCH was perfectly cast in the duel title roles and MANOULIAN’S use of cinematographer KARL STRUSS was inspired. We know that black and white, stagy films of this period are a hard sell to today’s audience but this one really deserves to be checked out.
