keystone-kopsOn this day in 1912, Keystone Pictures releases its first Keystone Kop movie, Hoffmeyer’s Legacy. Directed by Mack Sennett, the Keystone Kops films were silent, black-and-white movies starring a crew of bumbling policemen. In dozens of films, the Keystone Kops bumped into and fell over each other in a frenetic sequence of slapstick gags. In 1955, director Sennett made a brief appearance in Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops.
