On this day in 1971, WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES released DIRTY HARRY. Directed by DON SIEGEL, this story of a renegade San Francisco cop with little regard for rules was an instant hit with holiday audiences (go figure). CLINT EASTWOOD went from ’star’ to ’superstar’ in the titular role and DIRTY HARRY became one of the defining films of the ’70s. Also in the cast are HARRY GUARDINO, RENI SANTORI, JOHN VERNON and ANDREW ROBINSON. Truly one of the most iconic films of the ’70s.
