On this day in 1943, 20TH CENTURY FOX released THE SONG OF BERNADETTE. Directed by HENRY KING from the novel by FRANZ WERFEL, this film’s release was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the miracle at Lourdes. Set in 1858 France, the film starred JENNIFER JONES (who passed away last week at the age of 90) in the titular role that won her a Best Actress Academy Award. A stellar supporting cast included CHARLES BICKFORD, VINCENT PRICE, LEE J. COBB, GLADYS COOPER and PATRICIA MORISON.
