Avatar follows a paraplegic war vet who is sent on a mission to the planet Pandora. Once there (and in Avatar form), the marine is torn between his mission and the survival of the Na’vi, the planet’s indigenous people, who are now in jeopardy.
Avatar is one humongous achievement from Titanic Director James Cameron. Sure the story is ordinary, but the visuals achievements on screen obliterate any judgments that might arise while watching it.
Nine is the big screen adaptation of the mega musical stage production based on the Federico Fellini film, 8 1/2. Got that? OK then. Nine should be big and dazzling and loaded with great tunes. Sounds like fun, huh? Too bad it’s not.
The story follows a self-centered filmmaker (Daniel Day Lewis), who is in search of a script for the movie he’s shooting in just a week. He looks for guidance from his wife, mistress, mother and muse.
The all-star cast, which also includes Marion Cotillard, Penelop Cruz, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson and even Sophia Loren, isn’t enough to rescue the flick from an uninspired story.
The romance and eventual marrige between Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is the subject of the movie, The Young Victoria. Beautiful locations add production value to the films, while the competent acting from Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend keep story moving and emotionally charged.
What’s an estranged couple to do when they witness a murder? How about enter a witness protection program together where they’re shipped off to Wyoming and forced to be together well after they’ve split up. That’s the premise of Did You Hear About the Morgans? The film stars Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. They are pretty much the only reason to see the movie.
