Since it’s premiere at The Toronto International Film Festival, KATHRYN BIGELOW’s THE HURT LOCKER has been a tough sell to audiences. People who see it, seem to love it but getting them in the door has been an effort. Essentially a thriller but with an Iraq War backdrop, audiences seem confused about wether the film is a “war” movie or a “thriller’. Screenwriter MARK BOAL wants audiences to think of it as a thriller and feels it avoids the “war” label because it avoids taking a political stance of any kind. BOAL spent several months as an embedded journalist in Iraq and knows his business. Listen in below:
