On this day in 1980, PARAMOUNT PICTURES released POPEYE. Directed by ROBERT ALTMAN from a screenplay by JULES FEIFFER, this musical adaptation of the comic strip of the same name was…um….troubled, to say the least. That said, ALTMAN assembled a great cast that managed to absorb and appreciate the vibe of the strip. Inspired performances by ROBIN WILLIAMS, SHELLEY DUVALL, RAY WALSTON, PAUL DOOLEY and BILL IRWIN.
