On this day in 1959, PARAMOUNT PICTURES released LI’L ABNER. Directed by MELVIN FRANK and based on the comic strip by AL CAPP, the big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical was an audience pleaser. Shot in Technicolor and featuring songs by JOHNNY MERCER with choreography by MICHAEL KIDD, LI’L ABNER is thoroughly “Broadway.”  The cast includes PETER PALMER, LESLIE PARRISH, STUBBY KAYE, JULIE NEWMAR, STELLA STEVENS, BILLIE HAYES and ROBERT STRAUSS. First rate fun.
