I think of Alice Sebold as a bold and clever writer, only not good enough to sustain the interest through to the end. The idea of writing from afterlife was suspenseful, not unlike Gita Nazareth's Forgiving Ararat, which is also coming from the mind of a 30-something lady lawyer who was killed and trying to find her murderer.
The difference was, Nazareth's voice was beautiful and touching as well as powerful. She presented death as a platform to discuss forgiveness which IMHO strengthened the novel.
As Emma suggested, I would love to know how others compare these two.

If you like The Lovely Bones, read “Forgiving Ararat” by Gita Nazareth. I’m a publicist and fan of the book which is about a woman who unlocks the secrets behind her own murder. Read the first two chapters of this supernatural thriller at www.forgivingararat.com and read my review at http://forgivingararat.blogspot.com/
