On this day in 1954, REPUBLIC PICTURES released THE ATOMIC KID. Directed by LESLIE H. MARTINSON from a story by BLAKE EDWARDS, THE ATOMIC KID was actually MICKEY ROONEY’s baby.  ROONEY was behind the production of this comedy serving as producer. ROONEY and co-star ROBERT STRAUSS play uranium prospectors who survive an atomic test in Nevada. Very ‘Dumb and Dumber’ but a great ‘retro atomic’ feel. Worth checking out (if you can find it).
